Should you take a year out of education?

If you don't know where you want to go with your life or career, if you haven't got any work experience or you have very little work experience, yes.

If you know where you want to go with your life or career, if you have some experience in the industry you want to go unit then, no.

These are my broad opinions.
I've taken almost two years out of education between dropping out of sixth form and dropping out of university. Originally I was upset and disappointed it took two big mistakes to get me to where I am in my life today but looking back on these decisions to leave education, without them I would be a completely different person than what I am today and maybe I wouldn't be going down the hospitality management and social media management path.

Taking time out of education to work or to travel is vital in your personal growth, you learn a lot about yourself as a person, your strengths, your weaknesses and your limits. If youre struggling with making decisions about your studies or your career take a year out and really test yourself but make sure at the end of it you go back.

Some things you could do in your year out are:
  • Camp America
  • Au Pair in France
  • Work in an industry your interested in
  • Start a blog or YouTube channel
  • Volunteer for a big organisation
  • Volunteer for a charity or cause
  • Work abroad

Whatever you do, put 110% into it, learn everything you can and push yourself to your limits.
